About a week ago BK1 spent the whole day outside playing with a boy from her school who lives in our street. I was outside with BK2 at the same time and obviously met the boy's mother and we had a chat.
At one point, she said: "your childrens' English is so good!"
I like that, obviously.
I said: "yeah, that's because I don't speak English with them at all."
I could see the cogs moving in her head, then she smiled.
"Good Stockport accent, isn't it?" I said, and she agreed: "it is a lovely Stockport accent!"

It took me a while to get that, my clogs are obviously a bit slow at this time of day. Good one! Maybe that's our success then as well, I definitely have the most Glaswegian girl in our mums and toddlers group (where we have a high percentage of parents hailing originally from England).
ReplyDeleteNow I only need to work on the German ;)
sorry, cogs, not clogs...
ReplyDeletelove it
ReplyDeleteReminds me of travelling through the US, and being complimented several times that "you're English is so good!", after answering where I was from. Because, of course, being from Australia I can't be expected to have an adequate command of the English language.
ReplyDeleteAnd I meant 'your' - oops!
